Valentine's Day...Shmalentine's Day.

Valentine's Day.
The day that people with significant others love.
The day that the rest of the world hates.

I used to think that Valentine's Day was this magical fairly tale day where guys proved to be the wonderful creatures that all women hope they are. But as time has gone by and the more life I experience I have realized that this Hallmark holiday truly is more than just Singles Awareness Day. It's a day that makes me wonder if love can truly exist. Love is selfish. You love so you aren't lonely. Seems like that's the reason why people even get married these days... If it wasn't selfish there wouldn't be divorce or breakups. But there are. I don't think all love is selfish just most of it. Why set aside one day a year to show your love? Shouldn't love be shown all year round? Shouldn't you treat your loved one like they are the center of your universe every day not just one pink and red heart shaped day a year? This has never made sense to me!

I had a boyfriend once in college buy me three pink roses and a build-a-bear that said "Knight in Shining Armor" on it. I found out later that he went shopping with another guy from his basketball team and he bought his girlfriend the same thing... Wow yeah I feel special now. Not even an original idea. But nothing about Valentine's day is if you think about it. So this is why I hate today. Truly despise it. I usually wont even respond to people's messages, calls or texts because I think it's truly a ridiculous day.

So for every normal person in the world who hasn't been sucked into this day created to make you finally feel important to someone or kill your health kick because you ate an entire heart shaped box of chocolates to mask the pain you feel... Here's to you, Happy Valentine's Day... And while you're at it, kill that bottle of wine you're drinking.... I know I am ;)
