ADVENTURES IN HARLEM - ROOMMATE TO THE RESCUE

ADVENTURES IN HARLEM!

Oh you have NO idea how much I love my roommate right now! She just sky rocketed to BEST ROOMMATE IN THE WORLD! Seriously should get a medal or an award!

Ok so a little bit of background... I moved into a two bedroom apartment. It's not the projects but it's also not a 10 million dollar flat on the Eastside. It's very normal and standard for NYC. Now one thing you should know, no matter how old the building is roaches, rats, mice and anything else you can think of that makes your skin crawl can be found at one time or another in this city. So I am really trying to except that I no longer live in my brand new high rise apartment in Bellevue, WA.
With that said, a few days ago my roommate and I were sitting in the living room when all of a sudden we hear this whining noise coming from outside of our apartment. The whining kept getting louder and louder. I joked that it must be the rats in the walls upset with their living area being bombarded by the renovations that are taking place in our building. But then we start hearing this horrible clawing sound! Its scratching and whining got so bad that we went into the hallway to see if a neighbor had just left their apartment and put their dog in its cage. But then it just stopped. So we went about our business and didn't think much of it.
So today my roommate had crawled out onto our rooftop. We have this secret rooftop that only our apartment has access to. It's actually really nice because we can crawl out the window and hang out in the sun without sharing it. So she crawled out the window and minutes later I get this text from her! Ali, I just found the worst smelling dried up mouse!!! It was horrible! You're lucky you weren't here!!! I immediately gagged at the thought! So in NYC all the buildings have exterminators out once a month to just make sure everything is under control. Our guy came out a few days prior. He gave us these really awesome rodent killer packets that look like the dish soap packets you put in your dish washer. He threw like 10 on the roof and left. These packets are designed to trick animals into eating them, thinking that it's food, then it causes their insides to automatically dry out and basically explode them from the inside. I know best thing EVER!!!! So apparently, we figured out that all the horrible screeching we were hearing was the demise of this rodents life! And when it fell silent... Death warmed over!!! I then sent her a text back finding complete pleasure out of the whole circumstance that read MUAHAHAHA!!! I know I'm morbid, but hey, that could have ended up in our kitchen, or better yet, my bed!!! And I've had enough of stuff like that happening.
So that is the story of how my amazing, beautiful, wonderful roommate saved the day!

....I wonder if I put these packets in the crazy cat lady's gourmet meals to the strays if it would take care of them too...... ;-P
